Sunday Funday!

Hi, I'm Kiara and, I'm a writer who laughs a lot. I think comedy comes from kind eyes 😂. Laughter is a form of love.  I wasn't planning on writing sketch comedy, but it's just so funny. I teach as a sub where I learned kids are the funniest comedians. The Bible says, "Truly, I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." I'm a Beach Host at Atlantic Park Surf, where I haven't tried out my comedy material yet, but I did try surfing for the first time. If you see me giggling to myself, I'm probably writing in my head.

Eat your Word

Fruit of the Spirit - Peace  I enjoy a delicious acai bowl - the fruit of the spirit I'm eating here is full of peace.   Peace-filled acai bowl. FDA-approved Enjoying an acai bowl.

But it’s cold outside!

Wear red this weekend – to celebrate REVIVAL. But we already did that. Nah, revival is ongoing and it’s never really the same!  Let’s create art all over the Beach! Where will you meet?! 🙌   EVERYWHERE

Calling all creatives - could you be the next awesome TEACHER?

Image
I began the process for iTeach earlier this year, and I wanted to share this alternative route to getting your teaching accreditation. Oh, what's going on over here? I discovered it at a job fair. I happily walked over to the table. I had never heard of it, but apparently, it was something that was created to meet the different needs that emerged during the Pandemic (we survived the apocalypse!). It's an alternative option to a degree that saves money & time. This is your call, y'all! Sometimes when people think of teachers, they think of someone lecturing in front of a class. If you're someone who loves to work in enthusiastic environments and being around imaginative people, then teaching could be for you! Dreamers, visionaries, people who want to make a change Teaching is dreaming outloud. Huh? Hear me out.  Here's a snippet of a day as a substitute teacher I have two planning bells -- during this time, I think of ideas or even riff off of ideas the kids give...

Update: Writing Marathon @ the Beach

Image
The first day of my writing marathon was at Atlantic Park Surf.  Outpour, or the Creative Rush The first day I only planned to write for an hour, but wrote (with breaks) over a five hour period.  An outpour of ideas, art, and poems.  Set a Writing Flow Since then, I've written for about an hour, and I usually take breaks on weekends.

My current obessesion - Reading the thesaurus

Wait, it's not as weird as it sounds. The Word is alive and active. And Jesus shows us that words have power. Having a command and mastery of language & selecting just the right word is like picking the perfect fruit. I like to pick a word of the day. Just like eating an apple a day.  Choosing a powerful, positive word a day can help set the tone for the day.  This is how powerful a word is. I'll use imagery.  A powerful, positive word can change the atmosphere . Imagine words are the wind Imagine words are a sound Now, imagine you walking and you walk into a concert hall. The word that you've chosen fills your ears and gets under your skin like the booming bass in a song.  Hear your word. Hear the Word.  And then the word/the Words is inside of your mind (we have the mind of Christ). And then you like Jesus are a walking Word.  What word/ what Word are you today? Choose a good/Good one 😊

My current obsession - mind surfing with Carter

I'm a Beach Host at Atlantic Park Surf, and it's been a wonderful way to learn about surfing.  It's been an opportunity to teach my son.  The mind is powerful. When I’m at my job at Atlantic Park Surf, I get to watch surfing. Watching others surf is like learning to surf through osmosis . It’s amazing really. Man standing on water. Sound familiar? Close your eyes I didn’t know mind surfing was a common thing – but after the first time I surfed, I kept imagining myself paddling. I spoke to another surfer, and she said, “yeah, you were mind surfing.” I read Jason Borte’s book A Kook's Guide to Surfing, and he goes into detail on how one can deliberately mind surf.  Enter the waves (in your mind) It can be you imagining the perfect surfing session.  It can be you practicing a pop up. I even doodle waves while I sit outside as a beach host.  Another form of mind surfing.
